If you've been looking for a Sri Lankan movie, then Alai Payuthey is the one to watch. It's the beautiful coming-of-age story of two schoolgirl friends and their struggle with romance and heartbreak. And it's not just a great film — it's easily the best movie made in Sri Lanka this year, and one of the most important films about youth ever made anywhere. This is Sri Lankan cinema at its finest: intelligent and thoughtful, but also fun and entertaining throughout. Whether you're an old fan of the country or someone who is new to its culture altogether, there's plenty to love about Alai Payuthey. The characters are all well-developed and layered, and their struggles are realistic and interesting. There's a fantastic balance of comedy and drama throughout, with lots of laugh-out-loud moments but also a slower, more emotional side you wouldn't expect from a Sri Lankan film. The movie has an absolutely amazing cast. Everyone in the movie is brilliant — there isn't a single boring character among the lot — but watch out in particular for three in particular: Nadeeshani Govinden as Aya, Shakthika Kumarasinghe (who also co-wrote the script) as Shakthi, and Niroshan Wijesinghe as Tharindu. Nadeeshani plays the two main characters, Aya and Shakthi, extremely well. Her portrayal of Aya is spot-on, drawing the audience right in to her world, feeling her pain and discomfort at every twist and turn. While Shakthi isn't quite as strong a character as Aya, he's still great to watch, especially when he gets his increasingly ridiculous revenge plot going. Niroshan Wijesinghe is just fantastic in this role. He plays Tharindu perfectly — his slow burn anger is wonderfully done without being overplayed or annoying at all. And it's just a great performance across the board throughout the movie. Alai Payuthey's story is also really interesting, one of the best plots Sri Lankan cinema has ever produced. While the film follows a number of different characters and their own specific stories — including Aya and Shakthi — it weaves them all together into one full and complex narrative that, while it doesn't always focus on all of them at once, comes together extremely well. It's a story about growing up, about change and how it affects us. It shows how each person deals with this change in their own way; some people embrace it more than others (mostly Aya), some deal with it through violence (Tharindu), while others internalize their problems (Shakthi). It's really good, and you should see the movie. It's also important to note that Alai Payuthey is also an amazingly beautiful movie. The cinematography is gorgeous, the camera angles are beautiful, and the entire thing looks fantastic. The film was shot in beautiful parts of Sri Lanka, including at the Welikada Race Course, which has a large grandstand built by Jaliya Wickramasinghe (who also directed). The results are captivating — it's just wonderful to watch this movie on a big screen without any distractions or issues. cfa1e77820
